Have you been tempted to buy the Samsung Galaxy S20 but want an even better phone for gaming, there is a new alternative in the form of the Black Shark 3, which has just been released.
The Black Shark 3 has a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, much larger than the 6.2-inch Samsung phone, and has the high-end Snapdragon 865 chipset that has returned faster processing speeds in other devices than we tested with. Add to that 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, depending on the option chosen, as well as 5G connectivity.
Black Shark phones are designed for gaming, so there are a few bespoke features you won’t find in other devices. It has an advanced cooling system and a specific ‘Game Space’ mode switch. This physical switch limits non-game functions to focus all of the processing power on the game. There’s even a magnetic charger that snaps onto the side of the phone, which is more convenient to use when playing.
Sure, it’s not as good as the Black Shark 3 Pro with physical side triggers, a huge 7.1-inch screen, bigger storage options and a bigger battery, but it’s not yet got out.
Black Shark 3 Release Price and Launch Date
The Black Shark 3 was announced in China in early March, but was not released worldwide until May this year.
You can buy the standard Black Shark 3 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, on the Black Shark website and on Amazon from May 18. It will cost you £ 539 (around $ 660, AU $ 1,025), but we haven’t heard if this is happening in countries outside of Europe yet.
According to Black Shark, a specified version of the Black Shark 3 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage will possibly arrive at the end of May, and it will be slightly more expensive at £ 649 (around $ 800, AU $ 1,240). In June, the Black Shark 3 Pro will be available, for £ 799 (around $ 980, AU $ 1,520).
For the context, the Samsung Galaxy S20 costs $ 999 / £ 899 / AU $ 1,499 for 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, so the Black Shark 3 is a more affordable way to get a phone with the best features and functionality.
